Straightening

March 1, 2011

A friend and I were chatting today, and he mentioned that my last blog post makes it sound like I’m pregnant. I AM NOT. Nor is it in the plans, at this point in time or even this next year, God willing. Let’s just get that straight and out of anyone’s minds. Most of the mystery involved in that post and previous related posts is purely for legal reasons, I guess. And luck. Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched, right? Wait…that expression isn’t the best choice either. IT’S NOTHING LIKE THAT!

Secondly, (this one is for you, Grandma) I don’t really have any photos to post on here. And it’s really sad that the last ones I posted were Skyler playing with all her new Christmas presents. I just haven’t taken many. I need to make a point to get my camera out more. We’ve just been staying inside to keep warm and out of the crappy weather these last couple months, and there’s just nothing new and exciting to take photos of in our house. Hopefully Springtime brings many new photo opps!

Last, I just want to rant a bit about the government. We’ve been working through a refinance on our house and it happens to be an FHA loan, which means, red tape. We’ve refinanced before and it was SO simple. Basically, I turned in a few financial statement related things, signed some papers once or twice, and it was done. The hardest part of that was not getting tired from all the signatures I had to do. But this time, it’s a whole different story! The biggest challenge, really, has been in the appraisal process (not required for standard, non-FHA loans). It had to be a certain amount in order to meet requirements for our loan amount. Well, having 3 houses foreclose on your street in the past couple years does NOTHING for your home’s appraisal value, FYI. Even though we’ve probably put $10K worth of improvements (material costs) in our house in the last 5 years, it appraised for almost $10K less than what it appraised for when we first bought it. If that isn’t disheartening. And, we come to find out that the house behind us, which is on a very busy street, and is much smaller, sold last year for $7K more than what our appraisal came back as. That makes no sense. And THEN, the rude, jerk of an appraiser, decided she was too lazy to take photos of our attic and crawl space (which are required to close on an FHA loan). She asked Ronnie to go up and photograph the attic, and declined to even view the crawl space altogether. And who gets all bent out of shape when she gets called to come back to our house to obtain those photos? She has huffed and puffed about this, and is acting difficult like she can’t make it out here to do HER JOB and help us get this loan finalized. She also “blamed” Ronnie saying he shouldn’t have told the bank that he took the attic photos and not her. So now we’re trying to rearrange our own busy schedules and work around her attitude to finish the job she didn’t do right in the first place.

I am irritated, to say the least! But we’ve come this far, and there is so much money to be saved once we get over this hurdle. It will be worth it!
